A competent and experienced director will also be appointed for the Rangpur University Project. <p> The meeting underscored the need for formulating a master plan in this regard. <p> Acting Secretary of Education Ministry M Mozammel Haq Khan, Joint Secretary AZM Shafiqul Alam, Chief Engineer of Education Engineering Department AKM Shahjan Patwari, former Vice Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University Amirul Islam Chowdhury and professors Nurul Islam and M Rahmatullah were present at the meting. <p> On February 5, Chief Adviser (CA) Fakhruddin Ahmed approved the proposal for setting up a separate full-fledged university in Rangpur to facilitate higher education in the far-flung area of the country. <p> Civil society members urged the CA, during his visit to Rangpur on August 12 last year, to build up a university to facilitate the local students get higher education. <br> <center> <!--Google===================336===================--> </center> <p> <center><H2 STYLE="padding-top:6px;padding-bottom:0px;"> Human chain formed for starting Rangpur varsity activities </H> </center> <p> <DIV CLASS="bodytext2"> Oct 11: A one and a half kilometre long human chain was formed in front of local Press Club here this noon to press for realisation of the demand for immediate starting of the activities of Rangpur University. People from all walks of life participated in the hour-long human chain. <p> In a written statement, Dr Rezaul Hoque, convenor of Rangpur University Bastobayan Samonnoy Parishad, said that during his visit to Rangpur on July 5, Education Adviser Hossain Zillur Rahman at a meeting at Deputy Commissioner's conference room announced that admission and other activities of the university would be started within August, but, he regretted that neither the vice-chancellor of the university was appointed nor admission of the students started as yet. Dr Hoque called upon the government to start immediately the activities of the university by appointing its vice-chancellor.
